Our Story

The Invisible String

When people ask how we met, we usually smile and say, “On Hinge, during the pandemic,” but the truth is, our story began long before that. Ours is a story of an invisible string—one we didn’t even notice at first, but looking back, we can see it was pulling us together all along.

Rose grew up in Arlington Heights, while Connor called Utah home—a 1,392 mile stretch between us. Yet, Connor would often visit family in Arlington Heights, spending time with his cousins at California Pizza Kitchen, one of Rose’s childhood favorites. Without knowing it, our invisible string was already crossing in small, serendipitous ways.

As the years unfolded, the string drew tighter. Rose moved to Long Grove, and Connor relocated to Arlington Heights. Connor attended Saint Viator High School, while Rose went to Carmel Catholic—two rival schools. Rose cheered from the stands for Carmel while Connor played on the field for Saint Viator. The Fortune family’s backyard, right on a golf course, was often visited by Connor’s stray golf balls—but still, the string wasn’t tight enough yet.

Then came Rose’s freshman year at Dayton. She was invited to a Thanksgiving party, which, coincidentally, Connor also attended. Did we meet there? No. The string was getting closer, but we were still on different paths. Even after Thanksgiving, Rose found herself at Connor’s house for a few parties, but we still never quite met.

The next year, Connor remembers the blaring music from what he would later learn was Rose’s apartment, but again, the string remained untied. If we’re being honest, there were more strings pulling us together than we could count. Mutual friends, rival high schools, the same Thanksgiving feast, and our shared love for the Dayton Flyers. We were practically living parallel lives!

It took a tiny push—a simple swipe on Hinge—to finally bring us together. So, how did we really meet? We met because of that invisible string, quietly tugging us closer until the time was just right, and we were exactly where we were meant to be—together.

CHICAGO: THINGS TO DO

Welcome to Chicago! As we began this chapter of our lives, we couldn't have imagined a more perfect backdrop for our story than this city. The sound of the "L" train rumbling overhead, the stunning architecture we've admired on countless dates, and the unforgettable nights fueled by a shared pizza slice and a Chicago-style hot dog—these moments are woven into the fabric of who we are. We are beyond grateful to have you here, in the city we love, to celebrate with us.

Walk or Tour the City

The Magnificent Mile: Stroll along and enjoy the high-end shops, historic architecture, and beautiful window displays.

Architecture River Cruise: Board a boat from the nearby riverwalk to learn about the city's stunning skyscrapers and rich history from the best vantage point—the water.

360 CHICAGO Observation Deck: Head to the former John Hancock Center to get a breathtaking view of the city skyline and Lake Michigan from 1,000 feet up.

Museums, Parks, and Attractions

Millennium Park: A short walk from the hotel, Millennium Park is home to the famous Cloud Gate sculpture (a.k.a. "The Bean"), as well as the Crown Fountain and Lurie Garden.

The Art Institute of Chicago: One of the country's oldest and largest art museums, the Art Institute is located right by Millennium Park.

Navy Pier: A classic Chicago attraction on the lakefront, Navy Pier has rides (including a Ferris wheel), restaurants, and family-friendly activities.

Shedd Aquarium and Field Museum: These two world-class museums are located next to each other in Museum Campus, which is a short uber or public transit ride away.

Food & Drink

Deep-Dish Pizza: For a slice of Chicago's most famous dish, head to Giordano's. Be prepared to use a fork, this isn't your average pizza! You also can't go wrong with Lou Malnati's.

Italian Beef & Hot Dogs: Head to a Chicago institution like Portillo's or Al's Beef for a classic Italian Beef sandwich (get it "dipped") and a Chicago-style hot dog. While you're there, don't miss the famous Chocolate Cake Shake.

Classic Bars: For a great pint of Guinness, check out Celtic Crossing. Or, for a true Chicago experience, visit Butch McGuire's in the Gold Coast—it's been a legendary spot for decades.

XOXO
